City of York communities set to benefit from superfast fibre broadband
Superfast West Yorkshire and York is pleased to announce the rollout of superfast fibre broadband has commenced in the outlying villages of York.
Homes and businesses in the rural village of Murton, near York now have access to faster, more reliable broadband. The most recent fibre broadband street cabinet to go live will provide 59 homes in the area with access to superfast speeds.
Businesses near the outlying village of Nether Poppleton recently benefited too, their local exchange was enabled in February allowing 15 businesses on Millfield Lane to upgrade to superfast fibre broadband. In the coming months additional areas in York are scheduled to get access to the high-speed fibre-to-the- cabinet (FTTC) technology in addition to some new exchange only cabinets.
The Superfast West Yorkshire and York broadband programme aims to stimulate demand for superfast broadband across West Yorkshire and York, maximising the benefits offered by this high-speed broadband technology.
Benefits for businesses include faster file and data transfers, better access to cloud computing services and software, more sophisticated web-based contact with customers and support for more flexible working.
At home, superfast fibre broadband will enable a family to simultaneously download a movie, surf the internet and play games online all at the same time. A whole album can be downloaded in less than 30 seconds and a feature length HD movie in less than 10 minutes, whilst high-resolution photos can be uploaded to Facebook in seconds.
In order to take advantage of the higher speeds now available, residents and businesses should contact their broadband service provider.
