Superfast West Yorkshire and York delivers its first "P" connectionsHouseholds and businesses in Dewsbury and Milnsbridge now have access to some of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK. The new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network is capable of delivering speeds up to 330Mbps.
These are the first communities to have been connected to high speed broadband using FTTP technology as part of the Superfast West Yorkshire and York broadband programme - a partnership between the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, the five local authorities and City of York Council, BT and the European Commission.
Further ultrafast fibre broadband will be brought to the surrounding area of Pudsey during Autumn and Winter 2017.
More than 100,000 households and businesses now have access to fibre broadband as a result of the Superfast West Yorkshire and York broadband programme, installing almost 600 fibre broadband cabinets across the county. In addition to a significant number of properties able to get FTTC, we are installing Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) with plans to connect more homes and businesses each week.
Together with BT’s commercial programme, more than 300,000 homes and businesses now have access to the fibre broadband network in West Yorkshire and York.
When ultrafast broadband becomes available in an area, people need to contact their internet service provider to arrange an upgrade as it doesn’t happen automatically. Because the network is ‘open’, they have a wide choice of fibre broadband providers.
